At the Gorcums Museum you will discover the fascinating history of Gorinchem. You will see the battle against water, the story of our trade and industry and the development of the fortress. You will meet historical figures, such as the Martyrs of Gorcum: nineteen clerics who were put to death in the 16th century. Part of our collection can be viewed online. The Gorcums Museum also provides guided group tours on request.
Gorinchem has been home to many artists. Come and see works by 17th-century artists, such as Aert van der Neer, Jacob van der Ulft, Cornelis Saftleven, and many others. The museum also holds artworks from later periods in its collection. In the twentieth century, Ad Dekkers, Jan van Munster and Ewerdt Hilgemann, among others, worked here. The Gorcums Museum regularly exhibits special works by those artists.
On the ground floor, you will find a wide selection of Gorinchem keepsakes as well as art and design items. You will also find there the welcoming restaurant, ’t Oude Stadthuys, where you can enjoy a drink or a sumptuous meal.
Besides visiting the Gorcums Museum, you can stroll through the historic city centre and over the ramparts, taking in the beautiful views over the river.
